Buddha park

April 9, 2012.
Buddha park
It has been a long time since I last did something really touristic, but in the capital of Laos, Vientiane my friend Shinji said he wanted to visit the famous Buddha park before we would leave the city.

A small bus full of locals took us to the suburbs of Vientiane. It didn't look like the capital of a country at all. Actually, it didn't even look like a city, so rural it was.

After seeing many temples, churches, castles and more for the last 7 months, I find it harder and harder to enjoy historical sites, but the Buddha park was an exception. It is basically a park full of Buddhistic statues, but these are so absurd, sadistic and just plain weird that even I was fascinated. That religion can do a lot to people I know, but that it can make people this crazy, is almost unimaginable. What in earth could they have been thinking!?

A lady with different weapons in each of her more then 20 hands, sitting on a cow while resting her feet on a guy lying suffuring on the ground. Anyone interested?

An elephant with 4 heads, and thus 4 trunks having a guy standing on top of it with a disgusting smile on his face?

Or how about a thick snake with a huge claw in the middle that is trying to tear a poor little Buddha into pieces?

A Buddha statue with 4 heads and skulls above it with a little boy on each of its many palms also is far above my imagination.

It was a visit that made me realize how insane people can be.

In front of the big resting Buddha that made us think of the Sagat Stage in Street Fighter 2, I had a good fight with Shinji. Yes, insanity makes people insane!
